I am down in the dumps because of what I consider uncharitable attitudes towards those with whom we disagree.
There was a craze at one time with kids to say "What Would Jesus Do?" They even had bracelets that had the initials "WWJD."
As I remember Jesus loved his enemies and those who despitefully used him. And he cautioned us to do the same. This taking of political sides with vitriolic attitudes by those who consider themselves to be Christian is absolutely astonishing to me. Read the Beatitudes.

what brought this on? I totally agree. Why can't we discuss politics in this country without making it into personal attacks on ones intelligence or lack thereof?

I have been saying this loudly and for a long time. Heard something neat today on Science Friday (MPR) The discussion was on new movies that used science as a basis to bring new ideas. One of the people called those in science who poo poed religion as scientific fundamentalists. I laughed out loud! Sharon Henneman

Vickie, I had an idea I have never acted upon. What if we had a forum at the Art Center where people of all political persuasions could come together and thoughtfully discuss issues that are important?
The issues could be decided upon prior to each meeting. The idea is to try and reach consensus and send our ideas on to our elected officials. We expect them to work with each other, let's do it ourselves. Sharon H.

I don't know what brought this on. I am out of your loop but it sounds like another phase of Christianity ideas. Some are getting very confused evidently. There seem to be many absolutes that even the most uninformed adhere to so that Christianity is getting a bad press. I feel sorry for those who are trying to lift us out of the mess we are in. AS Obama says --we shouldn't be afraid of the future-well it can't be as bad as the past. I remember thinking FDR was the permanent president trying to get us out of the Great Depression. The WPA -- Wow - well we got turned around. We failed our responsibility in letting Bush get a second term. Lets give the new approach at least a trial. Fran.
